Dubai: The mortal remains of Sumayya, a native of Mattancherry, Ernakulam, who passed away in Sharjah, will be repatriated to Kochi tonight via an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah International Airport.
Sumayya passed away on the 7th of last month while undergoing treatment at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah. The repatriation of her body was significantly delayed due to financial constraints. As she was in the UAE on a visiting visa, there was no sponsoring company to take official responsibility for the costs involved in sending the body back home.
Despite reaching out to several individuals and organizations, the initial efforts to repatriate the body were unsuccessful. Subsequently, Sumayya’s husband, Shameer (a native of Varapuzha, Ernakulam), and her family contacted the Leader of the Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, for assistance.
Following this, Mr. V.D Satheesan coordinated with Salam Pappinissery, CEO of YAB Legal Services in Sharjah. Mr. Salam Pappinissery stepped forward to complete all the necessary legal formalities and provided the 6,000 Dirhams (approximately ₹1,50,000) required to cover the repatriation expenses.
After an agonizing month-long wait, the family has expressed profound relief now that the arrangements to bring Sumayya's mortal remains back to her homeland have been finalized.
It was confirmed that the cause of death was a heart attack. Sumayya is survived by her husband and their three minor children,
